Development Manager (Full-Time)

Location: Miami, FL (hybrid with flexibility needed to work some weekends, evenings and holidays if needed)
Compensation:
$55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience

About Vocal Youth Miami

Vocal Youth Miami empowers young people through vocal music experiences that build life skills and foster connection, self expression, and community. We serve children and teens across Miami-Dade County through after school choirs, original songwriting, leadership opportunities, and performances that bring families and communities together.

Position Overview

The Development Manager supports both fundraising and communications, with a focus on building strong systems, sharing meaningful stories, and keeping our community informed and engaged. This role works closely with and is guided by the Executive Artistic Director.

This role is a great fit for someone with a few years of professional experience (such as sales, marketing, communications, or nonprofit work) who is excited to learn the world of development. You do not need to have formal fundraising experience yet, but you should be organized, curious, relationship oriented, and comfortable with writing and digital tools.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Relations and Stewardship

  • Build strong relationships with donors through regular, thoughtful communication.
    Oversee donor acknowledgement, recognition, and year-round stewardship.
  • Support donor engagement at performances and special events.
  • Continue the high retention rate of our Founder’s Circle members and Give Miami Day donors.
  • Guide and support our Give Miami Day champions throughout Give Miami week. 

Development Support

  • Maintain accurate donor and prospect records in the CRM.
  • Support gift processing and donor acknowledgements.
  • Help coordinate fundraising campaigns and events (e.g., Give Miami Day, benefit concert, donor gatherings).
  • Pull reports and lists for appeals, campaigns, and stewardship touches.

Development Operations

  • Manage the donor database/CRM (Network for Good), ensuring accurate records, reports, and tracking.
  • Create and monitor development dashboards and reports to track progress toward goals.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for board meetings, funders, and partners.

Marketing and Communications

  • Draft, design, and send regular email newsletters and updates to supporters.
  • Update website content as needed.
  • Support social media content by gathering photos, quotes, and short stories from staff and programs.
  • Maintain photo and video archives and help ensure consistent branding and messaging.

Qualifications and requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience (such as sales, marketing, communications, nonprofit, or related work).
  • Strong writing and editing skills, especially for email and digital communication.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and follow through.
  • Comfortable working with digital tools (e.g. Google Workspace, Asana, Canva).
  • Willingness to learn fundraising best practices and CRM/database use.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings or weekends for events.
  • Passion for young people, arts, and community-centered work.

Work Environment

  • Full-time position with a mix of regular office hours and some flexible/remote work.
  • Some evenings and weekends required for performances, donor events, and campaigns.

Development Director (Part-Time)

Location: Miami, FL (The majority of our activities happen in the southern part of Miami Dade county. The work environment is hybrid with flexibility needed to work some weekends and evenings as needed)
Compensation: $40,000 - $50,000 (part-time with potential to grow into a full-time position.)

The Development Director is a part time leadership role focused on growing and sustaining Vocal Youth Miami’s contributed revenue. This person reports to the Executive Artistic Director and will guide and implement fundraising strategies, deepen relationships with donors, and build the systems that support a strong culture of philanthropy.

This role is ideal for an experienced development professional who is excited by both strategy and hands on work. As the organization continues to grow, there is potential for this role to become full time.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy and Leadership

  • Lead the planning and execution of annual fundraising efforts, including the Founder’s Circle (our major donors program), to meet revenue goals.
  • Develop and manage a donor-centered strategy across individual, corporate, foundation, and event giving.
  • Partner with the Executive Artistic Director and Board Development Committee to identify, cultivate, and steward major donors and prospects.

  • Help align development communications with Vocal Youth Miami’s mission, values, and brand.

  • Minimum 5 years of professional fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Demonstrated success in individual giving and donor relationship management.
  • Experience with donor databases/CRMs and basic development operations.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with an ability to tell a compelling story.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable attending evening or weekend events several times per year.
  • Passion for arts, youth development, education, or related fields.

Work Environment

  • Part-time role (with potential to become a full-time role) with some flexibility in scheduling.
  • Hybrid work environment: a mix of remote work, on-site meetings, and event attendance.
